Creating a Highly Effective Team

This three day course has been designed to enable new and existing teams to come together as a cohesive group. The overall aim is to create lasting supportive working structures between team members. The focus is on increasing effective communication within the team and improving working relationships by building on the existing collaborative structures and motivation within the team. A wide variety of techniques and methodologies are used to ensure that all team member have the opportunity to become more self-aware, to increase their knowledge and understanding of other team members, and to participate fully in team activities.

Participatory activities include, the ABCD Albert Ellis Problem Solving Strategy, ‘The Prisoner’s Dilemma’, Collaboration and Competition exercise, the ‘Rocky Mountain scenario’ – Noticing and Undoing Stereotypes and NLP Time Lines.

By the end of the sessions, the team should be able to:

  • Define a team
  • Identify and understand team roles and responsibilities
  • Assess the relationships between the team and rest of the organisation
  • Identify team issues and concerns
  • Build on strengths in relation to rapport and communication with one another
  • Establish goals for the future
  • Establish a set of action points
  • Understand the impact of change on a team
  • Create a set of team values
  • Identify current issues and concerns within the team
  • Understand the impact of collaboration and competition in teams
  • Understand the nature of perception and self-perception in teams
  • Acknowledge the team’s achievements
  • Recognise pressure and identify effective strategies for dealing with stress
  • Present effective collaborative outcomes within the team
  •  Identify new partnerships within the team
  • Set goals for the future
  • Create a system of monitoring and evaluation team cohesiveness

Pre-requisites:

This course is suitable for existing and newly formed teams from all sectors. There are no pre-requisites for this course.

Duration:

This programme is typically delivered over the course of one year, with one full day session delivered every four months. The objective is to assess the progress of the team within their working context from one session to the next, and to address new issues as they arise.
