Team Decision-Making

The overall aim of this one day course is to improve confidence in team decision-making by identifying and understanding some of the theories behind good decision-making. The course offers the opportunity to practice applying some of the tried and tested decision making models so that participants leave the course with a clear understanding of how to make decisions effectively and fairly as a group. Techniques utilised on this course include the Thomas-Kilman Conflict Mode, the Vroom-Yetton-Jago Normative Decision Model, and the NASA Space Activity – The Dark Side of the Moon.

By the end of the day, participants should be able to:

  • Identify the difference between decision-making and problem solving
  • Understand the different level and complexity of daily decisions
  • Identify effective strategies, methods and techniques
  • Use a decision-making process that keeps people engaged and on track
  • Recognise the power of shared decision-making
  • Identify and apply aspects of decision-making types to case studies and individual examples
  • Identify and practise decision-making strategies
  • Identify the best players to help make the best decisions
  • Identify opportunities to transfer decision-making skills within the team

Pre-requisites:

This course is suitable for existing and newly formed teams from all sectors. In order to achieve the full benefit of the day, we advise that the team should be between 8 and 20 participants. There are no pre-requisites for this course.

Duration:

This course can be delivered over one full day, or across two half days.
